Devotions for Compassionate Hearts

(Just a working title)

How many times have I wished for a Christian devotional that spoke into the life I was living as an aid worker? I hoped for insight, Biblical teaching, and to connect with people having similar stories ? The answer is - so many times!

With your help, I aim to assemble devotions that can be of interest to people working in or leading discussions about the humanitarian sector.

Here is the basic idea for this project - please take a look and click through to the online survey. If you choose not to participate, you can indicate this on the survey.

What is asked of you?

Your story

When did God use a person or situation to teach you about His character?

Has a Bible passage changed your life or pointed you in a new direction?

Has God answered your prayer, or helped you understand unanswered prayer?

Have you wrestled with injustice, loneliness, grief, or cultural differences as an aid worker?

Context

Include the context of your story - the 'who', 'what', 'why', 'when',

'where' and 'how'.

If the story is from a sensitive context, please feel free to change names of people or places, and remove any detail that might identify someone who isn't aware of being included in your story.

Stories will be lightly edited to use consistent wording. If you prefer to review your story after the edit, you will certainly have that opportunity.

Volunteering

There are still many details coming together for this project - whether it will be printed, or online, and offered for free or for a small charge.

Everyone who participates is asked to volunteer their story and photos without compensation. You will be kept informed about the progress, recognized as a contributor, and receive a copy of the finished product.

Input

If you have ideas on the themes, format, or distribution of the devotional, I'd love to hear them!

I see this as being used by aid workers in their newsletters, by people making presentations in churches or for leading their team devotions, as well as during their personal time.

On the 'introduction survey' (link below) you can also indicate whether you'd be interested in joining a small editorial team to help out with final edits and reviews.

Next steps

This online survey will get us started, and I'll follow up with everyone who agrees to contribute.

The ideas above are just a starting point - I'm so excited to see how each person will bring something different with their story.

Some basic guidelines

* use the Bible translation which is most familiar for you

* keep in mind that, just like the teams we work in, the readers will come from all different cultures, denominations and faith backgrounds

* devotion stories should have a broad appeal, grounded in your experience as an aid worker
